Who we are
A living community of devotion, learning and service — part of a worldwide spiritual family, rooted here in Copenhagen.
The only Hare Krishna temple in Denmark
At Skjulhøj Allé 44 in Vanløse, in Copenhagen, you will find the Hare Krishna temple. Residing here are around a dozen devotees who, besides practising their own Krishna consciousness, keep an open house for anyone who would like to take part in the daily temple programs.
The temple was founded in 1979 and has been in its present building since 2002. Several times each day we hold beautiful ceremonies before our altar of Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai, and everyone is welcome to come and sing, or to offer something with love.
Beyond the temple, Hare Krishna in Denmark also runs a vegetarian restaurant in Copenhagen and community radio in Copenhagen and Aarhus.

Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai
On the altar in Vanløse stand Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai — Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (Gaura) and Sri Nityananda Prabhu (Nitai), who appeared together in Bengal just over 500 years ago and began the sankirtana movement of chanting the holy names.
In the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition They are understood to be Krishna Himself, descended in the mood of His own devotees to teach the path of love by Their own example. They are celebrated as the most merciful — freely giving pure love of God to anyone, without any qualification, simply through the holy name.
Several times each day we gather before Them for arati — offering lamps, incense, flowers and kirtan. Whenever you visit, you are welcome to offer a flower, a song, or a quiet moment of prayer.
Sharing timeless spiritual wisdom with all of society
The objective of the Hare Krishna movement is to share knowledge of the Supreme Person, Krishna, as He is described in the Vedic scriptures — and to help every living being rediscover their eternal relationship with Him.
Wisdom
We share deep spiritual knowledge through books, lectures, courses, public events and radio — making the Vedic teachings accessible to all of society.
Practice
We offer a living, joyful practice of bhakti — kirtan, meditation, deity worship and festivals that anyone can take part in.
Community
We welcome students, families, seekers and school visits, and serve free vegetarian prasadam as an offering of care.

Srila Prabhupada
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in 1966. At the age of seventy, with almost nothing, he carried the message of Krishna from India to the West and inspired a worldwide movement.
The teachings he shared are not a new religion. They can be traced back through an unbroken line of teachers to the more than 5,000-year-old Vedic scriptures, the most prominent of which is the Bhagavad-gita.
Through his translations and commentaries — read and studied here in Copenhagen every day — his gift of pure devotion continues to guide us.
The daily temple program
Our doors open before dawn. Several times a day we gather before Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai for arati — ceremonies of kirtan, offering and prayer — alongside japa meditation and readings from the scriptures. You're welcome to join any part of it.
This is the weekday rhythm. The evening Bhagavad-gita lecture runs every day except Sunday, when the Sunday Feast takes its place from 15:00.

Hare Krishna was established in Denmark in 1979 and recognised as an official religious community by the Danish Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs in 1997. The temple in Vanløse is the heart of a wider family of projects.
The Copenhagen temple
Denmark's only Hare Krishna temple, on Skjulhøj Allé in Vanløse — home to around a dozen resident devotees, with open house every day and the weekly Sunday Feast.
Govinda's Restaurant
A vegetarian, Indian-inspired restaurant on Åboulevard 7 in Copenhagen. Every dish is cooked by devotees and offered to Krishna before it's served — and the restaurant is smoke- and alcohol-free.
Radio Krishna
Two local stations, in Copenhagen (since 1984) and Aarhus (since 1986), broadcasting philosophy, music and interviews — thousands of programs, running without interruption for decades.
Krishnahuset, Aarhus
A dedicated centre at Kystvejen 65A in Aarhus, where devotees and interested guests gather for regular and occasional programs. More at krishnahuset.dk.
Nama-hatta groups
Informal home gatherings held around the country, where devotees meet in one another's homes. Contact the Copenhagen temple or the Aarhus centre to join one near you.
Nyt fra Hare Krishna
The community's magazine, published monthly (at least ten times a year) — fresh Danish translations of Srila Prabhupada's teachings, articles, recipes and a calendar of events. Free digitally.
Nationally, the projects run independently under ISKCON Danmarks Landsråd (IDL), part of ISKCON's worldwide Governing Body Commission, with an annual general assembly open to all.
